This aspect encourages individuals to perform duties for their countries for the overall benefit of others. Nationalism led to liberation of many African states during the colonial eras leading to independence. This influenced the rise of nationalist leaders like Nelson Mandela (South Africa), Jomo Kenyatta (Kenya), Kwame Nkrumah (Ghana) and Patrice Lumumba among others. There common interest was to ensure that their people were free from political and colonial bondage introduced by the European Powers. Apartheid was a detrimental practice in African countries during the colonial period in which people from different races have distinct social privileges. For instance, the Africans did not enjoy similar political and economic rights as whites, which forced them to live separate ly from each group. Apartheid was prevalent in South Africa since it was a policy used to govern the country and undermine the Blacks against political freedom and democracy. Its implementation was facilitated through having designated tags for people allowed to use some facilities. Jomo Kenyatta initiated nationalist movement in Kenya.
